Army National Guard Colonel Sawyer Kincaid has served her time dueling with death in the deserts of Africa. Now that she’s home, the only sand she wants to see is on the beach in South Florida. Too bad Tropical Storm Leo, swiftly gaining strength out over the Atlantic, is about to draw her in to another life or death war, this time on home soil.

Dr. Dara Sims has too many critical patients in the intensive care units at Miami Memorial to consider evacuation, no matter how determined the battle-hardened colonel is to make her. As far as Dara is concerned, evacuate is just another word for abandon. When a state of emergency becomes a state of siege waged by Leo, all she can do is hope the rising waters relent before she loses everyone, herself included.

"I am an avid reader. I have several books going at one time. I love 99% of Radclyee's books and this was a good one. I would like to see a follow-up to this story, but time will tell. Some of it was taken right out of the headlines. I live in Florida and have lived through this reality many times. This past year was the 1st I thought about evacuating. I am a retired F/F paramedic and have worked many, many of these storms. Radclyffee did another great job with the story line, with the main characters, and the problems and headaches as well as the many, many hours worked preparing for and dealing with a crisis of this magnitude. I would highly recommend. I personally will read it again and again as I do with all her books."

Dangerous Waters A First Responders Novel Radclyffe Books Reviews

  • I had stopped reading Radclyffe because most of her recent stuff had become cookie cutter romance with interchangeable parts. Butch falls for fem. Butch or fem or both has a past that keeps them from loving again; blah, blah, blah. This was a good First Responder novel with the usual butch, fem but with hurricane Leo breathing down their necks, they didn't have time for the usual drama. Colonel Sawyer (you have to love the names that Radclyffe comes up with) Kincaid and Dr. Dara Sims are the butch, fem of the Radclyffe universe and are perfect together. Both have a job to do, but they don't let that stop their attraction to each other. A good supporting cast, but what I really liked was the way that Radclyffe told the story of the coming hurricane. I found myself thinking of the movie, "Day After Tomorrow" and other disaster movies. It would have been nice to have a little more tragedy and survival during the storm, but that's just me being greedy. Believe it or not, but I didn't mind the lack of hot sex because; after all, they were in the middle of a crisis. Good story, good characters, good supporting cast. Maybe I should get back into reading Radclyffe.
  • No such thing as a bad book by Radclyffe, but lately they seem rushed. I enjoyed this story, but the character development had some pretty big gaps, and the relationship arc was Mach 2. Life and death situations strip people to the bone, and living and working alongside someone through that pressure cooker often forms tight, lifelong bonds. Even in crisis situations, however, where the best and worst of people are rapidly revealed, it takes time for love to develop. Lust, most certainly. Like, fondness, respect, and admiration; absolutely. Love? Only just the beginnings.

Furthermore, there were some minor flaws in the portions of the book that described the military and their operations. Things that normally wouldn’t bother me, because it’s obvious that the author did at least some research. But when considered together with the other issues I found with the book....

I’ve purchased every book this author has written. I enjoy her stories. Regrettably , however, if the recent trend continues I’m not sure how much longer I’ll believe them to be worth the $10 price tag.

  • I normally enjoy this author but this book was missing something. There was so much buildup for the storm and while she tried to convey the magnitude, but it was lost to me. The romance was ok as well but also lackluster and not what I’ve come to expect from this author.
  • Another 1st responders story that deals with a state disaster. A hurricane that comes to shore and the response of emergency teams leaves little time for ones self and the balance that ones needs between work and physical diversions.
  • Another winner from this prolific author who never disappoints. Amidst a major disaster, steamy heat of a non weather related kind melts two hearts together.
  • Redcliffe does it again. Characters are great and always action. This first responder series is great. I so look forward to each new release.
  • I enjoyed it ok. It was a little obvious for me. The character development could have been a little stronger but overall I'm glad I read it.
